Arts Agenda - Kabuki rave

Midtown’s Eleven50 will be turning Japanese on April 5 as Alchemy House and Universalculture Productions present Kabuki Theater: Suzika’s Dream, a live multi-media presentation inspired by Japanese culture.

Kabuki Theater: Suzika’s Dream will use fusion and a “cinematic lounge” concept to transform the nightclub environment with dance, music, poetry, video and fashion. Sets, costumes, lighting and performances are inspired by the traditional motifs of Japan’s dramatic form Kabuki, but with contemporary twists. The multi-sensory evening features the Japanese drums of Zerotaiko, sculpture from the Sensua gallery, haiku readings, oil-painting by Chinese-American artist Ling Zhang and Asian-accented music from RadioOM Djs Swivel and Sharab and Lush DJ Bryan Bazare.

Offering their first full-scale production in Atlanta, co-executive producers Harmony Buje and Joel Peddle intend to produce events similar to Kabuki Theater: Suzika’s Dream at other U.S. and European cities as well as the 2001 Burning Man Festival.

Kabuki Theater: Suzika’s Dream will be held April 5 at 8 p.m. at the eleven50 nightclub on Crescent Avenue between 13th and 14th streets. $15. Call 404-687-8726. http://www.universalcultureonline.com??
