Arts Agenda - Ladies night

Bringing out the sexy side of improvisation, the Gorgeous Ladies of Comedy perform their inaugural show Dec. 17 with plenty of musical sketches, improv games and more estrogen-powered fun than you can shake a well-accessorized stick at.
In this unique collaboration, female members from three of the biggest local improv troupes, the Comedy Response Unit, Dad’s Garage and Laughing Matters, have joined forces to form the professional all-women improv troupe. The only troupe of its kind in Atlanta, Gorgeous boasts an eclectic mix of funny women who love to perform high-energy improv.
Despite the lack of men, the troupe’s show largely follows the standard spontaneous format of improv: The audience calls out topics or situations for members to act out on the spot. Unlike many troupes, however, Gorgeous focuses on musical improv. Accompanied by a pianist, members make up songs in the musical genres suggested by the audience.
Whether you are female or male, Gorgeous offers humor that appeals to all types because half the fun of the show lies in trying to think up the most inane genre imaginable (cowboy rap, perhaps?).
The Gorgeous Ladies of Comedy perform at Manuel’s Tavern, 602 N. Highland., Dec. 17. at 2 p.m. $5. Call 404-874-4050, option 1, for reservations.
