On the run with Sole Munki

Last November, David McCaskill opened up Sole Munki with his brother, Darius and their cousin, Paul Woods. As a sneaker and skate boutique that specializes in exclusive kicks and specially designed decks, the shop quickly became a favorite location among Atlanta’s skaters and sneaker heads. A year later, Sole Munki is launching a new clothing line, sponsoring a skate team and moving the store to a bigger location.

In 2002, McCaskill graduated from American InterContinental University, where he double-majored in international business and fashion design. He also spent a year abroad studying fashion trends in Dubai.

McCaskill goes to skate parks around town to recruit kids to the Sole Munki skate team. With skaters ranging from ages 8 to 20 years old, the Sole Munki team creates demo tapes and competes.

On Nov. 24, Sole Munki will be moving to a new location at 130 Cone St., which will feature a mini skate-ramp and arcade games inside the skate shop and shoe store.

McCaskill estimates he owns close to 400 pairs of shoes. “It’s crazy, man, they’re all over my house; in my kitchen and everything.”
