Golden Sleaze Awards - The Pointing Out the Obvious Award

Rep. Stacey Abrams

We honored Abrams last year, but she deserves recognition once more. When Sen. Mitch Seabaugh appeared before a judiciary subcommittee with his bill to allow parents to carry guns onto public school property, Abrams noted that sex offenders are prohibited from within 1,000 feet of schools, so why should it be any different for guns? And on Sine Die, when firearms fans balked at a suggestion that gun-permittin’ restaurants should post signs as a courtesy to patrons, Abrams reminded them that there are more than 26 instances where signs are required – including areas where one might encounter llamas. When the House tried to pass a controversial bill that included a barrage of fees, the Yale-educated lawyer – who writes romance novels on the side under the nom de plume “Selena Montgomery” – stood up and once again schooled her colleagues on, you know, the actual rules of the chamber. Considering the brainpower at work in the House, she’s a needed addition.
