Daddy Needs New Shoes January 13 2007

January 13, 2007

Record thus far: 4-5 (NHL: 2-0; NBA: 2-4; NCAA BB: 0-1)

Daddy apologizes for a poor performance last night (and for speaking in the third person). After a humbling 1-2 record on Friday, Im looking to bounce back in a big way with the inclusion of some pigskin playoff picks.

1)?Baltimore Ravens/Indianapolis Colts UNDER 42 points

Last week against a mediocre Chiefs defense, Peyton Manning (aka the playoff choke specialist) threw three interceptions; I cant imagine his day is going to be much better against Ray Lewis and the rest of what comprises the best defense in the NFL. The Colts defensive unit, who have been horrible all year, actually showed some backbone last week shutting down Larry Johnson and holding the Chiefs to 8 points. Between Baltimores season-long stinginess and a Colts D desperate to prove their manhood, I dont think this is going to be a high-scoring affair. Oh yeah, the total has gone UNDER in five of Baltimores last seven games, as well.

2)?Philadelphia Eagles +12 at New Orleans Saints, Philly/N.O. UNDER 55

*** This is a two-team 6-point teaser, which means you must win BOTH parts of the bet to win. The original lines were Philly +6, OVER/UNDER 49.

I had to tease this game because I didnt feel strongly about any of the original lines that were set. I actually think the Eagles will win this game, but due to an emotional home crowd and a dynamic New Orleans offense, I feel much safer with a 12-point cushion. As for the UNDER at 55, teams buckle down defensively in the playoffs. The Saints gave up an average of 20.1 points-per-game throughout the regular season, which is quite similar to the 20.5 ppg that the Eagles gave up all year. The Saints scored an average of 25.8 ppg while the Eagles scored an average of 24.9 ppg. My basic arithmetic skills tell me that any combination of those averages all fall below 55.

3)?Edmonton Oilers/Calgary Flames OVER 5 Goals

‘’Two nights ago I took the OVER in the Calgary game and won. Last night I took the over in the Edmonton game and won. Bingo Bango! Daddy likes the OVER in this combination of teams that like to score goals for him. No real science or sports knowledge behind this pick, I just feel it in my soul.

Please bet responsibly, although I probably won’t’’
