Weekend arts agenda: Skate show promises Young Blood May 01 2009
Saturday’s the fourth biannual SK8 or DIE show at Young Blood Gallery on North Highland Avenue. The last one took place at YB’s Grant Park location, where grungy youth (along with die-hard skaters now in their 30s) joined your typical smartly dressed gallery hoppers (of all ages) to haggle over a room full of skateboards-turned-artwork by local and national artists.
I’ve had a chance to preview the show and have been informed that there will be no more unfair speculation — in years past, the over-enthused have taken to buying the hottest designs the minute doors open. Each work will be auctioned from the same base price ($100) starting Saturday from 3-9 p.m.
