If you absolutely must stop eating and go see some art shows, go see these.

There are two things I like about Wreckless Eric’s first solo show, at Upstairs and to the Left. One is the location, because not enough art shows, I find, are held above pubs. Also the show’s title, Paintings by an Antique English Pop Musician, which has a delicious precociousness piled atop an obvious entendre - the adjective just keep coming! The show was originally set to close on Saturday, but it’s been extended through Dec. 8. It includes several different paintings, in acryllic, of the Kodak logo. Here, let Eric explain himself: “I’ve been a pop artist for thirty seven years. Made a lot of records, toured the world, wrote a book about it. Now I’m an antique.”

FRIDAY-SATURDAY

Image

Jaynie Crimmins and Grace Kim’s Twofold is made up mostly of paper, squeezed and rolled and layered in various amounts and colors - which heightens its intricacy without lessening its stature. Everything here that folds or crumples does so in service of macro work being done at a micro level. Includes sculpture, installations, and wall-mounted pieces. At Kibbee. Closing reception is Saturday from 7-9 p.m.

PSA: It’s pay-as-you-wish Friday at the Museum of Design. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

FRIDAY-SUNDAY

Here’s what Leah Roth’s Dirty Ego, at MINT, proposes: “Have you ever wondered what it would be like to uncover your inner ‘bad guy’? What would you do? How would you look?” And then: “The result is a series of tongue-and-cheek images that give a candid peek into each subject’s alternative lifestyle.” Among those things uncovered: arson; murder. Closing this weekend. Hours are noon-8 p.m. Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.
