<a href=” www.toritinsley.com” target”=”_blank”“>Tori Tinsley has had a busy few years. The multi-media artist has acted as intern for Burnaway, artist assistant to Pam Longobardi in Greece, research assistant for Art Papers magazine, and a fellow resident at the Hambidge Center. Her work has been included in both the Art Papers and Burnaway’s annual art auctions — not to mention her continuing pursuit of an MFA in Painting and Drawing at Georgia State University. All of this in addition to the <a href=”https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Moms-Laugh-Project/204054936299123” target=”_blank” target”=”_blank”“>Mom’s Laugh Project, which Tinsley founded in 2010 to preserve the stories of women effected by, and raise awareness of, <a href=”http://www.theaftd.org/understandingftd/ftd-overview” target=”_blank” target”=”_blank”“>frontotemporal degeneration (FTD).

? Starting on Thurs., March 5, Tinsley’s solo exhibition, Contact Comfort, will simulate the ambiguous loss of those close to FTD patients — like that experienced by Tinsley since her own mother’s diagnosis in 2009. Her new paintings and sculptures simulate the slow erasure of this type of psychological loss. The pieces, which include recognizable images among ambiguous marks and layers, introduce “a synthetic mother figure who comforts without connecting” from the love studies of psychologist Harry Harlow. Held at <a href=”http://wonderroot.org/” target=”_blank” target”=”_blank”“>Wonderroot, the exhibition will run through Tues., April 21. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thurs., March 5.
