Weekend Arts Agenda: Corrina Sephora comes to Gallery 72 June 04 2015

Corrina Sephora is taking over Gallery 72 this summer. The Atlanta-based blacksmith, metal worker, and visual artist’s latest exhibition, Emergence from the Waters, runs through July 9. Highlights for the nautical-inspired exhibit — scupltures, paintings, installations — include Sephora taking part in an “Art and Business” panel at Gallery 72 on June 10, with local arts entrepreneurship hub C4. Sephora will also host an interactive storytelling worskhop on June 18. The Emergence from the Waters exhibtion will close things out July 9 with a party, and by “party” we mean book signing and artist talk. THURSDAYImage Curated by Deer Bear Wolf’s Elizabeth Jarrett, Natural Selection Vol. 6 is going down over at Argosy in East Atlanta Village. The variety show will include performing artists Johnny Drago, Trevor Jones, Daniel Bailey, Tantrum, Sarah Padgett, Flight of Swallows, and Fantasy Guys. Brock Scott will unveil his sculpture “Giant Squid,” a piece made with welded steel, walnut veneer, and stained glass. It’s all more or less the official breaking-in of Argosy’s new event space. $7. What could be better than sipping bourbon and talking William Faulkner? Well, on Fri., June 5 and Sat., June 6, you can do both, and meet some of the South’s best authors and poets at Southern LiFest 2015. Regardless of whether or not you think Big Foot and Kraken-like giant squids exist, one thing’s for sure: their mystery makes for some trippy-ass art. Enter Cryptids, an exhibition at Kibbee Gallery running through June 27, featuring works from Jeremy Townsend (aka Jert), Aaron Cavitycolors, and Christopher Neunschwander, “exploring the most elusive creatures in the animal kingdom.” Cryptids will be comprised of new paintings, drawings, and prints from all three artists. With an opening reception Sat., June 6, from 6-10 p.m. Details here.

If you want to support crafters and artists on their local and regional hustles,then head over to the Georgie Freight Depot for the Summer Indie Craft Experience (ICE). On Sat., June 6 and Sun., June 7, over 100 craft and vintage vendors will descend upon Downtown with the hopes that you won’t leave the historic building empty-handed. Free-$5. More details here.

This Sun., June 7, marks your last chance to get over to Booth Western Art Museum for The President’s Photographer: Fifty Years Inside the Oval Office. As the title might suggest the exhibiton features behind-the-scenes photographs of U.S. presidents dating back to 1961. The images, collected from 11 chief White House photographers, include rarely seen photos from the Kennedy, Reagan, and Obama administrations. For the full break down, go here.
