Weekend Arts Agenda: Here Again at Marcia Wood Gallery and Search Engine January 14 2016

On display Thurs., Jan. 14, and Sat., Jan. 16, only, Here Again is a site-specific installation hosted by Marcia Wood Gallery - Castleberry. Here Again is a collaborative project by Michael McFalls and Jon Swindler, an extension of a project they first created in Sweden. The installation features digital prints, tape, trees, steel, aluminum, wood, coal, lights, and other waste materials. Currently, Jon Swindler is Area Head of Printmaking and Book Arts at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia and Michael McFalls is an Associate Professor of Art at Columbus State University. Stop by on either night as this collaboration between friends will be a cool experiment to witness. The installation will be on display Thurs., from 7-10 p.m. and Sat., from noon-5 p.m.

THURSDAY

>> Curated by Karen Tauches, Print or Projection opens at the Swan Coach House Gallery on Thurs., Jan. 14, from 6-9 p.m. The group exhibition features photographic prints from various artists including Morgan Alexander, David Baerwalde, Benita Carr, Amanda Greene, Sarah Hobbs, Steffen Sornpao, and more. Framed works and short video works will be on display for the viewer to compare and experience.

On both opening and closing nights, a site specific video installation created by Benita Carr and Bill Orisich will be on display, led by performance artist Jessica Scott Felder. This exhibition is in conjunction with the Atlanta History Center.

FRIDAY

>> Mason Fine Art hosts the opening reception for From Realism to Abstraction on Fri., Jan. 15, from 6-9 p.m. The group exhibition features a mix of media from photography and realism to abstract expressionism. You’ll see works from David Kessler, Cynthia Knapp, William Mize, Carolyn Meltzer, Nick Patten, Phil Ralston, Jose Rodriguez, Michael Zigmond, Evan 5PS, and Vincent George

>> While she’s known for her large-scale installations, Martha Whittington brings a new kind of work to Sandler Hudson Gallery on Fri., Jan. 15. With the Grain: Works on Paper focuses on small and two-dimensional items as Whittington explores the craft of working with wood. Opening reception will be from 7-9 p.m.

SATURDAY

>> SHIT SHOW, a show from local designer Sarah Lawrence, opens at Mammal Gallery on Sat., Jan. 16, from 7-10 p.m. The art show brings together all of the designs from her “Drawing Shit Everyday” project. There will be pennants, T-shirts, and prints available for purchase and a photo booth on site. Learn more on this short CL interview with the artist.

LAST CHANCE/ONGOING

>> gloATL’s Search Engine closes this weekend beginning on Sat., Jan. 16, at 7 p.m. and ending 29 hours later on Sun., Jan. 17, at midnight. This is the second iteration of Search Engine. Last October, gloATL performed several choreographies for 7 days, 24 hours a day during the first iteration. The last performance will be at the Atlanta Contemporary. Join them as they “shave the light, cast shadows, and open bodies for deep listening.”

>> Mary Addison Hackett’s first solo exhibition in Atlanta, A Tin of Egyptian Cigarettes, continues at Marcia Wood Gallery-Midtown until Sat., Feb., 6. The exhibition gives the viewer a special glimpse at Hackett’s last decade of work and its evolution. Through her art, Hackett continues exploring the meaning of everyday life.
