Athens folks return ITP to show what’s new and cool in their arts scene and we’re so glad. Wunderkindred returns for its second year, this time at Mammal Gallery, on Sat., Jan. 23, starting at 8 p.m. Curated by Dashboard artist Kerry Jones, Wunderkindred II converges Atlanta’s and Athens’ art scenes under one roof, just for one night. ”I am so stoked to present such a diverse array of sounds this year,” Jones says. “Each band is incredibly unique, comprised of totally brilliant freaks! I’m elated to be able to use both floors of Mammal Gallery, as it’s one of the most dynamic spaces in town. I just collected all the work from my visual artists, and can hardly wait to install the gallery show.”

The gallery’s walls will show artworks by Jourdan Joly, Ben Rouse, Otto Lange (above), Michael Oliveri, Kaleena Stasiak, Adrienne Kitchens, Will Eskridge, Lydia Hawkins, and more. Starting at 9 p.m., get ready to get your dance on with Smokedog, Gláss, Wild of Night, Hot Fudge, Richard Gumby, and Mind Brains

After trying to figure out what exactly “Wunderkindred” means, Jones says, “The name of the event is based on the fact that these brilliant minds are my friends, my kindred spirits, as well as my contemporaries in the very nurturing, insular artistic landscape of Athens.” Friendship, art, and good music to move to? ON FRIDAY

Sarah Hobbs and Susie Winton compare their artistic expressions in Perspectives of the Unexpected. While the works differ in size, they find common ground over the concept of the show. Hobbs observes our anxieties and obsession over our personal spaces through photographs. Winton brings unexpected scenery from her travels in her photography — complete with flaws. It’s an interesting opportunity to explore these two artists’ creative processes, up close and personal. The opening reception is at Chastain Arts Center on Fri., Jan. 22, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
