Pierce’s stage adaption of Karen Spears Zacharias award-winning novel /atlanta/mother-of-rain/Event?oid=17100671Mother of Rain runs at the Springer Opera House Thurs., April 14-Sat., April 16, at 7:30 p.m., and Sun., April 17, at 2:30 p.m. Mother of Rain follows the life of Maizee Hurd as she relocates to a rural Appalachian town following her mother’s tragic death. Things start to settle and life seems well until World War II approaches, then the voices in Hurd’s head put her and her daughter Rain in trouble. 
Mother of Rain runs thru April 17.

======›› Produced by the Atlanta Ballet and Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Twyla Tharp’s The Princess and the Goblin comes to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, with the opening reception set for Fri., April 15, at 8 p.m. Adapted from George MacDonald’s 19th century fairy tale set in the Kingdom of Goblin, Tharp’s choreographed dance adaptation follows a young heroine attempting a venturesome rescue mission.
Twyla Tharp’s The Princess and the Goblin runs thru April 17.

======›› Gardener and local artist Cooper Sanchez headlines Historic Oakland Foundation’s second annual Arts at Oakland event, with a site-specific, one-night only, group showcase, Illumine: An Evening of Light and Art in the Gardens, Sat., April 16, from 6-10 p.m. Accompanied by painter Charles Ladson, filmmaker Steve Bransford, and designer Elizabeth Ingram, the self-guided tour starts at the Oakland Cemetery gates and continues to the Beaumont Allen Greenhouse, featuring light-based works, backlit molds, paintings, drawings, and pressed botanicals in light boxes.

›› Atlanta-based artist Gregor Turk hosts Art Over Dinner at the Art Farm at Serenbe Sun., April 17, at 6 p.m. Known for his public art installations, ceramic sculpture, photography, and mixed-media projects, Turk discusses his art and recent works with guests in an intimate, relaxing setting. The event features food from Homespun and live music from John Burke
