Weekend Arts Agenda: ‘Where Children Sleep’ July 07 2016

The CDC brings us a sobering exhibition at the tail end of this weekend, with the debut of James Mollison’s photography series, Where Children Sleep. Pairing portraits of children from across the world with the places those same kids sleep each night, Mollison’s exhibition offers a reminder: Not every child has what they need.
I don’t know about you Atlanta, but after last weekend I’m beat. Here’s all you need for a low-key weekend, after the jump.
ON THURSDAY
›› Here’s Johnny! The Coca Cola Summer Film Festival is out to terrify this weekend, showing Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. Join Jack Torrence and his family for a great time at the Overlook Hotel. What’s the worst that could happen? 7:30 p.m. at the Fox Theater.
›› Tonight, The Peach Coven invites you to party for a good cause. Dignity Thursday, a Coven-organized pad and tampon collection drive, brings music, drink, and dance to Mammal Gallery. Bring your friends — your entry tickets are a donated period product each. 8 p.m. at The Mammal Gallery.

›› Once a month performance artists, dancers, and choreographers are invited to Eyedrum’s roof at sunset. The Boiler Room, the monthly performance put on those nights, takes place on an 8-foot by 16-foot stage. The intimate shows are uniquely fascinating every time. Friday night, the performance is on.. Will you be there to see? 8 p.m. at Eyedrum Art and Music Gallery.
ON SATURDAY
›› Saturday’s a stylish day — which makes it the perfect time to see Fashion in Good Taste: Women in Atlanta 1920-1969. Displayed within the Atlanta History Center’s Swan House, the exhibit displays the evolution of city fashion over nearly 50 years. 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Atlanta History Center.
ON SUNDAY
›› Tonight is the last night to catch the Atlanta Shakespeare Company’s performance of The Taming of the Shrew. The story of love and deception has been a talking point for centuries, and now’s a great chance to see it in all its glory. 7:30 p.m. at the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse.
