A recycling plant on Wells Street near Mechanicsville caught fire today, sending black plumes of smoke visible from Midtown. Two Atlanta Fire and Rescue engines responded to the blaze, which a department spokeswoman said was caused by workers who were welding next to an old refrigerator. No injuries were reported.
