Comic’s Weekly Roundup: Cherith Fuller headlines WonderComedy

Atlanta has one of the top comedy scenes in the country, and each week is filled with plenty of opportunities to see some of Atlanta’s best local comics and visiting national touring acts. He’s your best bets for getting into some funny business.

? Tue., July 14Tuesday night marks the return of Atlanta’s most delightfully nerdy show, Dungeon. Host/Game Master Remi Treuer guides comics (or bards, thieves, and wizards) through one-on-one role-playing adventures that’ll make you laugh, gasp, and cheer. Each show also features standard stand-up in between games. It’s one of the most unique shows in the country and it’s absolutely free. ? Thur., July 16?One of my new favorite venues is the Highland Inn Ballroom. It’s a gorgeous room in a great location, and has become a new go-to destination for comedy shows. This Thursday bring us one of the newest stand-up showcases Schlitz and Giggles. Ten great local comics will hit the stage at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 (cash) at the door.

? Afterwards, head on over to the Village Theatre for comic-book themed variety show, Clobberin Time. This live talk show will feature sketch comedy, stand-up, music, panel discussions, and more, including a special set by Jarrod Harris. This edition of Clobberin Time will also serve as the release show for host and illustrator Joe Karg’s first graphic novel El Grande. Created by Karg and Elio Guevara, this will be the first time the book is on sale to the public. So grab some laughs, some booze, and some comic book goodness. Doors open at 10 p.m., show at 10:30 p.m. Free.

? Fri., July 17Over in Reynoldstown, it’s ATL’s most popular altl-comedy show held in a basement; it’s WonderComedy! This laid back stand-up showcase held at WonderRoot is a personal favorite of mine and this month’s show hosts a slew of great comics, featuring the hilarious Cherith Fuller. Fuller will be joined Friday night by Austin Chardac, Jeffrey Stephenson, David Perdue, Olive Lynch, Preston Douglas, Scott Eason, Tom Russell, and host Andrew Michael. Tickets are only $5 (cash). Doors open at 8:30 p.m., show at 9 p.m. Guaranteed to be a good time.

?>> You can double down on the fun Friday night by hitting up Ben Palmer’s Picture Show at the Hangar. Palmer is a hilarious comedian who’s made a name for himself for his humorous interactions with companies and sharp respones to customers the on company Facebook pages. Picture Show is a combination of stand-up, plus a slide-show presentation of Palmer’s masterpieces in art of trolling. Show’s at 9 p.m., $5 at the door.

? The Weekend
======>> Just like the rest of the week, this weekend is absolutely stacked with amazing shows. At the clubs, Mary Lynn Rajskub headlines six shows, Thursday through Sunday, at the Laughing Skull Lounge in Midtown. You may know Rajskub as Chloe on “24,” seen her comedy on Comedy Central, or “Chelsea Lately.”

?>> Over in Buckhead, Caroline Rhea headlines five shows, Thursday through Saturday, at the Improv. Like Rajskub, Rhea is an actor as well as a top-notch comedian. She’s appeared numerous times on Comedy Central and starred in her own  comedy special “Rhea’s Anatomy” on Bravo in 2006. She also acted on the WB series “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” and hosted her own show “The Caroline Rhea Show.”

?>> On Saturday night, you can catch a free show at Manuel’s Tavern. Back Bar Comedy Showcase is a monthly show that features a small handful of great local talent. This month’s show will be headlined by the amazing Ismael Loutfi. Show’s at 10 p.m.
? On Sunday night, the Laughing Skull hosts a bittersweet show, a farewell show for Rob Haze. Haze is embarking on a new chapter in NYC. Haze has long been a staple in the Atlanta comedy scene. In additon to being named one of CL’s 20 People to Watch in 2015, he became the first local to win the Laughing Skull Comedy Festival this year and broke into the Top 100 on this season’s “Last Comic Standing” on NBC. He’s long been one of my favorite comics to watch and while it’s a bummer he won’t be around anymore, the move is more than right. Everyone around the country will get to know Haze very soon, I have no doubt. Show starts at 9:30 p.m., tickets are just $10.
