Comic’s Weekly Roundup: Rory Scovel, Eric Andre, and James Adomian headline the inaugural Red Clay Comedy Festival

Comedian Olivia Cathcart breaks down this week’s best comedy events

Mon., Oct. 12Fuel up for the long week by heading over to one of Atlanta’s best comedy shows, Beer and Comedy Night. Held at arguably Sweetwater Brewery’s tap room, the event features host Joe Pettis and his funniest friends. Doors open and beer starts flowing at 7 p.m.; show starts at 8 p.m. $10 gets you inside as well as a souvenir pint and beer tastings. Those drinks will go great with the food truck that will be parked out in the parking lot pre-show.
?
? >> Afterwards, head over to Little Five for Monday Night Comedy at Star Bar. This week’s show is sure to be filled with old and new faces and possibly some very special guests. After all, it’s a pretty busy week in comedy (as you’ll see). In other words, if you’ve skipping Star Bar lately, stop now. Doors open at 8:30 p.m., show starts at 9:30 p.m., always free.

======This week’s edition of Happy Hour Comedy Hour features a special guest closing out the show, Portland comedian Amy Miller. Miller recently was a semi-finalist on the ninth season of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” This week’s show will also have Kevin Saucier, Samm Severin, and more on the line-up. Held in the Atlanta Room of Smith’s Olde Bar, doors open at 6pm, show starts at 7pm. $5 gets you into the show as well as a cup for endless access to the official show keg. Come drink, laugh, and get to bed at a reasonable hour.
?
? Wed., Oct. 14On Wednesday night, it’s the second edition of a new show courtesy of John-Michael Bond and Travis Jones, Date Night. Held at the incredibly cool Brigantine Beer Parlor (behind Argosy in EAV), this monthly show asks comics to tailor their set around one central theme. Wednesday’s show will feature comics such as Will Copeland and former ATLien Caleb Synan (who recently made his late-night debut on “Conan”) and others talking about “optimism.” The free show starts at 8 p.m.

======Many comedian have been recording their albums at Star Bar over the past year. One of the first to do so was Andy Sandford. A long-time staple of the Atlanta comedy scene, Sandford (“Conan,” Beards of Comedy) is back this week for the Red Clay Comedy Festival and kicking off the festivities by taping his first hour special at his favorite place. Helping him open his big night will be former ATLiens Dave Stone, Shalewa Sharpe, and Noah Gardenswartz; hosted by Rotknee Leete. Sandford is one of my favorite comics; his material is always incredibly smart and well-written. I was there for his album-recording, squished against the doors as Star Bar was the most packed I’ve ever seen it. Get yourself a ticket now and secure yourself some breathing room. Show starts at 8 p.m.

The inaugural fest features a monster lineup that includes three huge headliners, Rory Scovel (“Conan,” Comedy Central), Eric Andre (“The Eric Andre Show”), and James Adomian (Comedy Central, “Comedy Bang!
