Comic's Weekly Roundup: Best of the 69 Hour Comedy Film Fest

======>> Tonight, it’s Beer and Comedy Night at Sweetwater Brewery. Every other week, Joe Pettis host a handpicked line-up of some of the best local comics, and you can see them all for just $10. Admission also comes with a souvenir pint and drink tastings throughout the night. Get there early to grab a good seat and also to hit up the Sweet Auburn BBQ truck that will be posted up in the parking lot. Doors open at 7 p.m.; show starts at 8 p.m.
? >> If you’re looking for something a little different, check out the Solve for X variety show at the Highland Inn. Solve for X is a monthly science variety show that features musical acts, dance, storytelling, burlesque, puppetry, and comedy. These performances aim to break down the barrier between science and the arts. This month’s theme is “Family Food.” In addition, the producers will be collecting canned goods for the Atlanta Community Food Bank at tonight’s show. Doors open at 8 p.m.; show starts at 9 p.m. $10.

?Thursday night is the big finale for the 3rd Annual 69 Hour Comedy Film Fest. Over the weekend, Atlanta’s filmmakers were given a prop, a line of dialogue, and 69 hours to make a funny three-minute short. The producers will showcase their favorite submission on Thursday night on the big screen at the Plaza Theatre. With help from a few special guests from Adult Swim, one submission will be crowned the winner with that team winning $500. This year’s judges include Casper Kelly (“Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell”), Lucky Yates (“Archer”), Dave Willis (“Squidbillies”), and Jim Fortier (“Brak Show”). There will also be free beer available courtesy of Terrapin, and pizza from Baby Tommy’s Taste of New York. Show’s at 9 p.m., tickets are $10.
? The Weekend
? This weekend, you can catch one of Atlanta’s biggest rising stars Karlous Miller headline Uptown Comedy Corner. Miller made a name for himself last year on the eighth season of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” making it all the way to the top six. The comedian’s also performed on BET’s “Comic View” and MTV’s “Wild ‘N’ Out.” Miller headlines seven shows, Thursday through Sunday.
? >> Over in Buckhead, The Improv will host comedian and actor Kevin Nealon this weekend. Nealon was a regular cast member on Showtime’s critically acclaimed show “Weeds,” as well as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live” for nine years where he was well-known for his “Hanz and Franz” sketches. In addition, Nealon has acted in a long list of films and released a stand-up special, Whelmed… But Not Overly, on Showtime in 2012. Nealon headlines five shows, Thursday through Saturday.
? >> On Saturday night, stay up late for the 1AM Secret Show at Smith’s Olde Bar. The 1AM has long been a staple of the Atlanta comedy scene, but the show has really been on a roll the past few weeks putting on some of the best shows since the Relapse days. The show is free and a great way to cap off your weekend; plus, you never know when a special guest will drop in.
