Comic’s Weekly Roundup: From Viceland to Baron Vaughn

Comedian Olivia Cathcart picks out her best bets for this week’s comedy events including WonderComedy Presents Jeffrey Stephenson, Shane Mauss, Baron Vaughn, and more.

Mon., Nov. 16
====== Another great edition of Monday Night Comedy is set for tonight at Star Bar. The lineup will be killer as always and the drinks will be cheap as usual, too. It’s a free show and the best way to shake the Monday blues. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. The show starts at 9:30 p.m.

? A very special show will be happening on this week at The Hangar in Old Fourth Ward. VICE is launching their own TV network, Viceland, and with it a new comedy show called “The Flophouse.” Viceland will be throwing a party and hosting two stand-up shows at the DIY venue on Tuesday that will be filmed for an episode directed by Lance Bangs. There will be plenty of special guests from out of town performing, as well as free drinks and pizza. Party starts at 4 p.m. with shows at 7 and 10 p.m. respectively.

? Wed., Nov. 18
? A rather young show that’s been quickly gaining steam is Comedy Night at Eventide Brewing. The tap room of this Grant Park brewery serves as a fantastic venue for this new showcase that always brings a killer lineup. This month’s edition features David Perdue, Trey Dunn, Brian Emond, Ian Aber and more. $15 gets you into the show plus a 36-oz. beer tasting. Get your tickets now — they’ll rise to $20 day of show.

? >> This Wednesday, Omar is back as Scene Missing pays tribute to the HBO show nobody will stop talking incessantly about: “The Wire.” Comedians, musicians, writers, and more will perform original sets based on the iconic series at Scene Missing Presents ATLAMSTERDAM! at the Highland Ballroom. Tomorrow ain’t promised to no one, so make today count and get your tickets now. Doors open at 8 p.m. The show starts at 9 p.m. $10.

? Thur., Nov. 19
======Stand-up showcase Date Night returns this Thursday with their biggest lineup yet. Hosts John-Michael Bond and Travis Jones welcome very special guest Shane Mauss to the Brigantine Beer Parlor (the back room of Argosy). Mauss has performed on “Conan,” “Jimmel Kimmel Live,” Comedy Central and more. Now he’s diving into a brand new hour about one of his admittedly controversial lifelong passions: psychedelics. Show’s at 8 p.m.

?Friday brings two amazing shows your way. First up in Poncey-Highland, Baron Vaughn headlines a special show at the Highland Ballroom. Vaughn currently stars on the Netflix series “Grace and Frankie” as Lily Tomlin’s (Frankie) lawyer son. He’s also performed stand-up on “Conan,” “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” and his own Comedy Central “Half Hour” special. Tickets are only $10, which is quite a steal. Doors open at 8 p.m. The show starts at 8:30 p.m.
?
? >> Over in Reynoldsville is Atlanta’s best monthly showcase, WonderComedy. This month’s show features an absolute favorite of mine as Jeffrey Stephenson closes out the show. Stephenson is a hilarious comedian who’s become a favorite with other popular shows such as Scene and Song Missing and sketch showcase Ladie’s Night. He’ll be joined on stage by such other local staples as Andrew Michael and Dan Weeks with special guest hosts Jake Brannon and Shaunak Godkhindi. WonderRoot doors open at 8:30 p.m. The show starts at 9 p.m. Admission is $5 cash at the door.
?
? The Weekend
======The Highland Ballroom has quickly become a regular spot for comedy, and thank goodness. This great venue will host another set of fantastic comics as former ATLien Dave Stone (“Last Comic Standing,” “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson”) comes back to co-headline with fellow L.A. comedian Lisa Best (Comedy Central). Also joining the duo will be Paul Gallois, Paige Bowman, Craig Hoelzer, Samm Severin, Andrew Michael and Zach Lamplugh. Doors open at 8 p.m. The show starts at 9 p.m. $10.
