The Series Cynic: Braves keep brooms in the closet against Tigers

The Braves missed a golden opportunity to sweep the Detroit Tigers this weekend, but they should probably be thankful that they at least won the series.

For the second cynical recap in a row, “Big Red Letdown” finds himself batting leadoff in the “Cynicism Lineup”.

Hanson’s performance over his last two starts (21 hits, 15 runs allowed in 7.1 innings pitched) would normally be enough by itself to put him up there, but it’s his mental state that has The Cynic concerned.

Hanson, who hails from California, certainly perpetuates the easy-going, hang loose Golden State stereotype with his overly emotionless demeanor on and off the mound.

Until recently, that laid back persona has been viewed as self-confidence and maturity, but now, it just looks like Hanson is confused as to why he can’t get hitters out with habitual ease—even worse, it appears as if he doesn’t care to search for a remedy.

Stoicism can be a pitcher’s best friend in high-pressure situations, but when you’re getting knocked around the way Hanson has been for a majority of the 2010 season, it’s time for him to start caring—or at least acting like it.
