We here at CL got some relief from our post-Independence Day letdown today after finding out that the paper received five(!) award nominations from the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies. AAN received more than 1,000 submissions from 88 alternative publications in the U.S. and Canada for this year's awards.

And the nominees are...
ARTS CRITICISM circulation 50,000 and over
Creative Loafing (Atlanta): I Miss My Weird, F*%ked Up Theater, Cult Following, and Beast of Burden by Curt Holman

MEDIA REPORTING / CRITICISM circulation 50,000 and over
Creative Loafing (Atlanta): Adios, AJC by Scott Henry

INNOVATION / FORMAT BUSTER circulation 50,000 and over
Creative Loafing (Atlanta): The Dunwoody Journal-Constitution by Staff

SPECIAL SECTION circulation 50,000 and over
Creative Loafing (Atlanta): Music Issue by Rodney Carmichael and Staff

PHOTOGRAPHY circulation 50,000 and over
Creative Loafing (Atlanta): Photography by Joeff Davis

Congrats to all the fine CL Atlanta nominees. The final rankings of the winners will be announced July 22 in New Orleans at AAN's annual conference.
