Last Thursday evening, Museum of Design Atlanta hosted a Spring Fling to celebrate its exhibit/competition The South’s Next Wave: Design Challenge, and to announce the winners of the competition’s cash prize. Curators Tim Hobby and David Goodrowe paired set and space designers with object and product designers to showcase emerging and seasoned design talents of the South. The result? A visually stunning display of creative collaborations, vignettes of imaginative open rooms pairing creative interiors with created objects. Running from November until the end of March, the design challenge was part exhibition and part competition; visitors to MODA were invited to vote for their favorite vignette. The Spring Fling tallied the votes, including last-minute voting, and announced the winners of the $6,000 cash prize: “Darkly Deeply Beautifully Blue” by cg creative interiors (Caryn Grossman & Chris Buxbaum) and Couture Cakes (Lisa Humphreys). For those who have yet to tour the vignettes, the exhibition will be open through March 31.
