Now that the OutKast anniversary tour is over, Andre 3000 is ready to make his foray into the world of get-high fashion.
During next month’s Art Basel in Miami, Andre 3000 will collaborate with filmmaker Greg Brunkalla and painter Jimmy O’Neal for an exhibit presented by SCAD and the SCAD Museum of Art. And what might Andre be contributing to such an exhibit? Well, 47 custom jumpsuits, of course, complete with the positively thought-provoking phrases and funky affirmations he rocked anew on each stop of this year’s anniversary tour.
Here’s a visual reminder of the collection taken at the tour’s halfway mark to refresh your memory. As if one could ever forget the ironic sincerity behind such catchphrases as “children of the cornbread,” “ninjas kill me,” “passionate about compassion,” “sloppy wet poseidon,” “i’ve never been to afrika,” and my personal favorite “big girls are beautiful to me.”
Titled i feel ya: SCAD + André 3000 Benjamin, the exhibition is billed as “a socially dynamic conversation” and “an invitation to think critically and consider rhetorical expression,” according to the press release. OK. But is it “art or fart?” HA.

Joining Dre’s collection of jumpsuits-for-thought will be Jimmy O’Neal’s large-scale abstract paintings and an experimental film directed by Greg Brunkalla. The commissioned film Trumpets will use the jumpsuit expressions as a jumping off point, so to speak, to construct “a broader conversation about language and context.” Projectors will spontaneously cast phrases and words onto a single surface during each screening of the film to create a unique audience experience each time.
“As I initially thought about displaying this collection, I immediately knew I wanted to work with my longtime collaborative partners at SCAD,” Dre offered in a canned statement. “The diverse group of people that come to Miami for Art Basel Miami Beach are the right audience to see this for the first time.”
The exhibit opens for viewing on Wed., Dec. 3 at Mana Miami and lasts through Sun., Dec. 14, 2014. See the schedule below for Dre’s special appearances with SCAD President Paula Wallace. (Did somebody say free tuition for Seven?) If you can’t make to Art Basel next month, you have a several months to start planning a trip to Savannah, Ga. After the Art Basel premiere in Miami, i feel ya: SCAD + André 3000 Benjamin travels to the SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah, where it will be on view in summer 2015.
