CL returns from AAN awards with bulky suitcase filled with medals

Fresh Loaf wins best staff blog second year in a row!

For the second year in a row, CL’s Fresh Loaf has been named the best staff blog by the Association of Alternative Newsmedia. The honor was one of five prizes the wretched publication that you’re reading right now won in Salt Lake City at the annual gathering of alt-weeklies over the weekend.
?
? The CL editorial board walked away with the silver and bronze in the Best Column and Best Column (Political) categories, respectively. Senior Writer Rodney Carmichael took home second prize for his story “Body Politic” in the LGBT/Gender Equality category. And Art Director Wes Duvall won third place for his work on Carmichael’s story in the Illustration category. CL competed against other publications with a circulation over 45,000.
?
? Soon-to-be former Staff Writer Max Blau (sniffle) won second place for his Chicago Reader piece about Jason Molina in the Arts Feature (circulation over 45,000) category. Sister papers also performed well. The Nashville Scene won six awards. The Washington City Paper won four prizes. The Cincinnati CityBeat took home three and the Pitch won one award.
?
? Here’s a rundown of all the winners and links to their entries, including the Fresh Loaf posts and columns that won over the judges from the Georgetown University Master’s in Professional Studies Program in Journalism. We say thanks to them and to you, our dear readers.
