First Slice 3-21-12: Mitt wins Illinois while Newt tries to pick a fight with De Niro

And De Niro’s, like, ‘You talkin’ to me?’ Now that’s fresh humor.

1. Mittens Romney won the Illinois primary with 47 percent of the vote (followed by Rick Santorum with 35, then Ron Paul with 9, and poor Newt with 8 percent). Meanwhile, Newt attempted to remind everyone he’s still a person who’s running for president by bellyaching over a dumb joke Robert De Niro made at an Obama fundraiser about the country not being ready for a white first lady. Gingrich said in a speech, “I do want to say one thing on behalf of both my wife, and on behalf of Karen Santorum and on behalf of Ann Romney, and that is I think Robert De Niro is wrong. I think the country is ready for a new first lady, and he doesn’t have to describe it in racial terms.” Newt, you’re already struggling. Maybe now’s not the time to make people question your famous sense of humor.

2. Two old ladies are fighting at a Northeast Atlanta senior highrise. WSBTV has the latest.

3. On April 3-5, the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park is hosting a job fair to fill retail positions at the airports new international terminal.
