First Slice 3-22-12: APS redistricting meetings not about race
The morning's top stories in Atlanta.
1. Superintendent Erroll B. Davis last night told a packed house at Jackson High School that the necessary redistricting and closings he has recommended — mainly to handle overcrowding and under enrollment in a school system and a city dealing with the effects of decades of white flight — is "not about race." Gotcha.
2. Atlantans are traveling to Florida to rally in protest in the case of Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old unarmed teen fatally shot in February by a neighborhood watchman.
3. The pollen count is going down even more today. So you can all stop tweeting about it, k?
4. Georgia is getting a Starbucks plant where they'll make Via packets of coffee, among other things. Or, as I call them every morning, little packages of dream powder.
