Omnivore - Are you craving snails and scallops?

I stopped in Ansley Starbucks today to drink three shots of espresso to raise my heart rate before heading to LA Fitness. While there, I ran into Calavino Donati (right), who closed her restaurant, Roman Lily Cafe, last year after 10 years of business.

Calavino had just come from signing a lease to open a new restaurant in Oakhurst Village. I’m not allowed to tell you the specific location yet, but the restaurant, Calavino’s, is slated to open Sept. 1. The menu will be strong on Italian recipes and will include some favorites from Roman Lily like polenta with pan-seared scallops. Calavino also plans to reprise her escargots and scallops over wilted spinach. (I never tried that. The mind reels.)

While the restaurant will feature her own recipes, Michael Connelly will be the chef. He has worked at Restaurant Eugene and, most recently, Sun in my Belly in Kirkwood.

An adjoining space, to be called Andiamo, will sell prepared dishes for later consumption.
