Omnivore - How much do you tip a server after going bonkers?
Speaking of tipping ...
I had lunch with friends today in a restaurant known for its tranquil, laid-back ambiance. When we headed to the only available table, we noticed a lot of liquid on the floor. A server rushed over and told us he needed to clean the space before we sat down.
“Is the ceiling leaking?” I asked.
“No,” he said, looking away.
“So somebody spilled something?” I guessed.
“You could say that,” he said. “I’ll tell you what happened but you can’t identify us if you tell the story.” I crossed my heart and hoped to die.
It turned out that a divorced couple sat at the table and, as sometimes happens with divorced spouses, a heated argument broke out. Before long, the former wife flung her plate of food at her ex. Apparently, a full-scale food fight erupted. Apparently, another couple at the table was involved, too.
“The good news,” the server told us, “is that they gave me a $100 tip.”
