Omnivore - Lunch with a QVC magnate-to-be

It was another Friday lunch at Anis today with my friends Brad Lapin and Brian Cohn. That old saying — “you’re known by the company you keep” — comes to mind whenever I’m around most of the people I hang out with.

Brad, a major foodie whose ‘zine was the Bible of the Los Angeles punk rock movement (a few decades ago), has an occupation now too esoteric to describe. He just returned from a week-long eating binge in New York and I’m trying to get him to write a round-up for us.

Brian is about to turn into a men’s grooming magnate. His Razor Pro, a device that extends razor-blade life with a fan, will be featured on QVC beginning April 13 at 8 a.m. Clark Howard has enthusiastically endorsed the gadget, which does not also chop vegetables and buff callouses. It’s amazing!

Lunch at Anis was as good as always. I ordered my usual roasted chicken with fingerling potatoes and haricots verts. Brad had his usual salmon salad and Brian ordered the day’s special, mahi mahi over polenta.

The restaurant was packed with elegant dressed-up ladies. This is still my favorite patio in town.
