Omnivore - Calling all jerks

The Village Jerk opens in East Atlanta

The latest to open in East Atlanta Village is The Village Jerk (1271 Glenwood Ave., 678-705-4585), a wryly named Caribbean restaurant that serves lunch and dinner. It’s located in the same space that houses a club, My Sister’s Room, that opens at 10 p.m. daily.

The menu is principally Jamaican, with a few Cuban dishes. For my entree last Saturday night, I selected this “sexy flank chimichurri” — marinated flank steak cooked medium-rare, sliced and topped with fried onions. This was all placed atop a creamy cassava pancake.

The chimichurri sauce, served on the side, was bizarrely bitter, not living up to what was otherwise a tasty dish.

We also sampled conch fritters, tofu in a guava sauce and bread pudding. Look for more in an upcoming “Grazing” column.
