Omnivore - Coffee, tea or beer?

The urban renaissance continues to expand in Atlanta’s popular northeast community of Brookhaven with Saturday's grand opening of Library Coffee Company.   Located at 2523 Caldwell Road in the new Village Place at Brookhaven shopping center (just off Dresden Drive), Library Coffee Company is answering Brookhaven’s call for an authentic neighborhood coffee house – plus a whole lot more.

Library Coffee Company’s founder and owner Brian Kahan, a local resident of Brookhaven, said he has spent many hours in coffee houses throughout his adult life, whether it was during his college years when he often found himself cramming for exams or later in life as a place to hangout and gather with his friends.

“I always found myself wanting more out of the coffee house experience –while in school," he said. "I found I needed to spend six hours or more in one place.  Usually that meant a coffee house; however, because of the limited offerings, when it was time for a meal the choice was either pound cake or a muffin.  That lead us to offer sandwiches and salads, and from there it was a natural extension to add the beer, wine and gourmet desserts.  The theory was not just to have additional food, but to give people a reason to stop by at any time of the day.”

Library Coffee Company will offer made-to-order sandwiches and salads, a variety of tapas, epicurean desserts, a rotating selection of beer on tap and an assortment of fine wines.  The menu at Library Coffee Company will also feature an array of standard espresso-based coffee beverages such as lattes and cappuccinos as well as whole-fruit smoothies and gourmet baked goods.

Kahan explained that Library Coffee Company’s name and aura is derived from “old world” coffee houses, where people often liked to go to read, catch up or play games.

Library Coffee showcases an oversized fireplace, patio seating and a convenient drive-thru for those who need a quick boost on-the-go.

Library Coffee Company will be open 6 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 6 a.m.-12 midnight Thursday through Saturday. In honor of the coffee house’s grand opening, Library Coffee Company will give its first 100 customers a free airtight coffee bean storage container.
