Omnivore - Checking out a new chef
A preview of this week's "Grazing"
Evan Cordes, who has worked at Cakes and Ale and Serpas, is the new chef at H. Harper Station. We visited to try him out Sunday night.
Cordes is aiming for a more seasonal and local menu and most of the food we ate was good. I ordered the three-course, $18 Sunday supper. My only complaint was the side dishes — cole slaw, a watermelon wedge and mashed potatoes. I want something green and something seasonal besides watermelon with my braised pork.
I'll have more to say in "Grazing" later this week....
By the way, the crash-and-burn attempt at an El Toro on Memorial Drive has been replaced by Bar One, which looks about to open.
EDIT: You can find pics of Bar One's preview party late last month on StraightFromTheA.com. The site also fills in details on the owners, one of whom is Peter Thomas, husband of Cynthia Bailey of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta."
