  • Times-Picayune’s food critic, Brett Anderson, laid off

Another one bites the dust. Brett Anderson, food critic for The Times-Picayune of New Orleans, has been laid off. The paper’s food critic and features writer was one of more than 200 employees laid off from the organization.

Anderson’s unfortunate dismissal from the paper follows years of chronicling the New Orleans food culture, including following the rebuilding of the city’s food scene after Katrina, and how the BP oil spill affected the local food supply.

Recently, Anderson, already a James Beard Award winner, was granted a prestigious fellowship to the Nieman Foundation for Journalism based on his work at The Times-Picayune.

The lay-off was not an abrupt decision, but a part of the paper’s attempt to end daily distribution, cutting down to three days a week.
