Omnivore - The hidden sin of Chick-fil-A

Tom Maicon opens his Bible

The Chick-fil-A drama continues. Gay marriage advocates are boycotting the restaurant and the Christian right is consuming the chicken sandwich in gluttonous retaliation.

Tom Maicon of Atlanta Cuisine on Tap finds the real sin in the Christians' action. A sample from his recent column:

Take a look below at just some of the chemicals and ingredients (the real issues) found in a classic Chick-fil-A sandwich as listed on the company website, and you start to see a bigger picture.

Monosodium glutamate MSG (twice!), soybean oil (likely GMO considering the chicken is not organic), sodium aluminum phosphate, dimethylpolysiloxane (an anti-foaming chemical), high fructose corn syrup, ammonium sulfate, soy lecithin, sodium benzoate, polysorbate 80, yellow 5, blue 1, potassium sorbate and TBHQ.

Oh, to be fair, there is some chicken in there, too.

There is currently no organic option on Chick-fil-A’s menu and they don’t plan to offer one in the near future. According to Tiffany Greenway, Consultant, Corporate Public Relations for the fast food chain, “At this time, Chick-fil-A is not pursuing an organic chicken sandwich menu option.”

So, just to make sure I’ve got this straight. Right wing Christians in a retaliation against gay marriage activists, showed up in droves to pollute their own bodies (a sin according to the bible) by consuming, among other chemicals, high fructose corn syrup, MSG and anti-foaming chemicals. Have these people all lost their minds?

And, to think all that gluttonous sinning occurred under the 1,600 roofs of a fast food restaurant chain that claimed in a July 31, 2012 press release that they apply “biblically-based principals.”
