Huzzahs are in order!

Former CL Food Editor Besha Rodell, who’s now living in Los Angeles, scribing at that city’s storied alt-weekly and being the same person we miss and love, was handed top honors (PDF) by the Association of Food Journalists yesterday for her work overseeing last year’s Food Issue.

CL Atlanta edged out the San Francisco Chronicle and Seattle Times to take first place in the “Best Newspaper Special Project” category.

The package, co-written by current CL gourmand guru Stephanie Dazey and beloved contributor Brad Kaplan, celebrated the bartenders, waiters, and cooks who prevent restaurants from crumbling to pieces — the folks who make our favorite restaurants actually work.

It included essays by two of Atlanta’s most well-known chefs reflecting on their beginnings, a “day in the life” at (and time-lapse video of) Empire State South, and favorite industry hangs.

Congrats and well done.
