Under threat of ‘crippling’ ice storm, Atlantans stock up on frozen pizza, potato chips, and more

Between President Obama’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Georgia on Tuesday and local government urging us to stay off the roads for days now, it’s OK to be a little nervous. And, just two weeks after those pesky three inches of snow temporarily ruined our lives, a little annoyed.
In fact, many Atlantans are going bananas as they brace for possible power outages brought on by a potentially “catastrophic”, “crippling” ice storm of “historical proportions.”

Coincidentally, bananas were among a handful of items looking a little thin on the shelves at Edgewood Kroger Tuesday evening. Also low: breakfast cereal, produce, steak, and potato chips.
Milk, bread, and bottled water supplies were predictably depleted, along with starter logs and lighter fluid. Ground beef, frozen pizza, pork, and sliced deli meat were quickly becoming scarce, as well.

The store was definitely more crowded than a normal Tuesday night, but, while waiting in line, a weary looking self-checkout attendant, Linda, said it was nothing compared to the swell of shoppers that flooded the store yesterday. On Monday night, she said, folks were fighting over shopping carts and who was next in line.
