Omnivore - Villains Wicked Heroes launches Monday pop-up series

First up, a menu from chef Carlos Collazo inspired by Puerto Rican street food.

Villains Wicked Heroes is launching a weekly, Monday night pop-up series tonight, Mon., Feb. 17, at 5 p.m. Each month, the Midtown restaurant will play host to a new chef with a new menu and theme.

First up is PR 184, inspired by Puerto Rico Highway 184, which is known by many as the "Pork Highway." The menu will feature traditional Puerto Rican street food inspired by Mexican roast pig stands along the highway called lechoneras. For $12 a plate, Puerto Rico native chef Carlos Collazo, most recently of Cruzado, will serve up three meats: morcilla (Puerto Rican blood sausage), mojo pulled pork, and masitas (braised and fried pork belly). Each plate includes a choice of two sides including tostones, twice fired green plantains, avacado with lime and salt, sweet plantains fried whole, and more. In March, Villains will change gears with a Paleo pop-up featuring the authors of the Paleo Comfort Foods cookbook, chefs Charles and Julie Mayfield.
