Renderings by ai3 are now available for Fred’s Meat & Bread, the first of two fresh concepts The General Muir executive chef Todd Ginsberg will open at Krog Street Market this year (the second will be an Israeli-inspired market called Yalla). A joint venture with partners Ben and Jennifer Johnson and Shelley Sweet, it will serve familiar dishes such as Ginsberg’s famed burger stack and the General Muir’s “PLT,” with breads by local baker Rob Alexander, along with a full menu.

Jay-Z opened a down-tempo version of his 40/40 Club at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Other locations reside in Manhattan’s Flatiron District and at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. As for the offbeat Atlanta outpost, a VIP level will open later this year.

Two years after its first announcement and almost a year after its originally planned opening date, Southbound has finally opened in historic downtown Chamblee at 5395 Peachtree Road. Owners Dennis Lange and Mike Plummer have installed Chattanooga transplant Matt Marcus as executive evening chef and Mihoko Obunai as the chef during lunch, currently the only meal being served at the restaurant - only on weekdays, for the time being.

Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall, the Beltline-fronting pub slated to open late this summer at 684 John Wesley Dobbs Ave., has announced a head chef: Robert Lupo. He comes to the role with considerable culinary chops, having previously served as sous chef at Leon’s Full Service.

After an anticipatory spring, Orpheus Brewing is officially open on the edge of Piedmont Park. The Beltline-adjacent brewery serves concoctions such as a tart plum saison, dry-hopped sour saison, and spring double IPA. The beers are currently arriving at numerous additional watering holes around town.

Cardamom Hill alum Omar Powell, who left Asha Gomez’s anchor restaurant 11 months ago with no clues as to his next destination, has surfaced with a new supper club, Atlanta magazine reveals. The Jamaican-born chef - who previously worked at Bacchanalia, Daniel in New York, and the Atelier - named his roving, twice-a-month dinner series 1494, for the year the Old World arrived in his native land. For $85 per person, guests enjoy five courses and complimentary wine pairings intended to educate them about Caribbean cuisine.
