Here's a reason to buy a ticket to the Gunshow: The next chef to take over the open kitchen at Kevin Gillespie’s Gunshow for its Hired Guns chef series is Tandy Wilson of Nashville’s City House. The James Beard Foundation’s Best Chef Southeast finalist (2013 and 2014) will serve his Italian-inspired Southern cooking alongside Gunshow’s regular featured items Tues., Aug. 12 and Wed., Aug. 13.

The Hired Guns series, running from May through October, features a chef from an award-winning restaurant each month for two days. Last month’s hired gun, John Currence of City Grocery in Oxford Mississippi, knocked out socks off with Szechuan catfish, mushroom tamales, and gumbo z’herbes.

In case you've been living under a rock, Gunshow takes a dim sum approach to serving food; chefs present medium-sized dishes of their own making tableside, describe the components, and diners choose whether to try or wait for the next arrival, instead. The addition of hosting lauded Southern chefs from other cities doubles the fun.
