As we collectively mourn the end of Georgia peach season, the guys from Fox Bros. Bar-BQ and Taqueria del Sol give us another fleeting seasonal flavor to look forward to— the Hatch chile. The much sought after pepper exclusively grown in the Mesilla Valley of New Mexico also has a limited season and is much beloved for its robust flavor, so much so that these clever chefs created a festival around this seasonal favorite.

?
The second annual Hatch Chile Fest (aka Foxeria) will take over the parking lot at 1200 Howell Mill Road on Sun., Aug. 30. The event will feature the combined talents of Fox Bros Bar-B-Q’s Jonathan and Justin Fox alongside Taqueria del Sol’s Eddie Hernandez as they pay homage to the Hatch green chile. The block party-style event will feature menu items like whole hog po’ boys, Hatch chile mac and cheese, green chile icees, and pork green chile Frito pie. There is even a dish pairing our beloved peaches with the southwest pepper: Georgia peach and Hatch chile pound cake.

?
But it’s not all about the eating. The Hatch Chile Fest was created to raise funds for Hogs For the Cause, a charity with 100 percent of proceeds aiding pediatric brain cancer outreach services. Hogs For the Cause began in 2008 as a benefit for a 4-year old boy fighting brain cancer. Now in its fifth year, the event draws 80 teams from around the country to compete and raise funds.

Justin Fox said in a release:

?
“It’s a great cause with the money helping the families of children going through pediatric cancer and now they have branched into the Atlanta area and have given out several grants already. We have done Hogs twice and are going to be doing it again in Charleston this October. Hatch Chile Fest is our festival to raise money for the cause. The money we raise will be directed back to Atlanta area families. We got to take part in a grant ceremony for 9 year old Isabella this past March and it was pretty great.”

?
Tickets for the festival, which runs from 4 to 8 p.m., are $25 each. Beverages, including a special green chile beer from Red Hare Brewing and specialty cocktails from Cathead Vodka will be sold separately. For tickets and more information click here.
