Patti Callahan Henry: The Bookshop at Water’s End

During a particularly challenging part of her childhood, Patti Callahan Henry found sanctuary in bookshops, finding not only incredible reads but also a sense of community. Inspired by these experiences, Henry’s newest novel, The Bookshop at Water’s End, follows the experiences of two women struck by tragedy who find solace in one another and, of course, books. As part of her book tour, Henry will read from her book and share her experiences.

 

Between Riverside and Crazy

Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre premieres its production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Between Riverside and Crazy on July 11. Playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis illuminates the life of ex-cop and recent widower Walter “Pops” Washington as he awaits the verdict on his discrimination suit against the NYPD and struggles to maintain control of old physical and emotional wounds all the while fighting to stay in his coveted, rent-controlled Riverside Drive apartment. As Pops juggles his personal conflicts, he must also accommodate less than desirable new houseguests and an unexpected ultimatum that ultimately nails him smack between Riverside and crazy.

 

Date Night: A Sensual Comedy Experience

Nothing says romance like a night of comedy under a giant metal squid, right? That’s the aim of Date Night: A Sensual Comedy Experience. This monthly stand-up showcase is perfect for everyone regardless of marital status as it delivers a diverse sampling of Atlanta’s funniest comics in the back room of Argosy. Audiences will be kept on their toes by the unpredictable and sharp-witted Andrew Markle, who will headline July’s show alongside such gems as Jeffrey Stephenson, Paige Bowman and more. Tickets are just $5 per person or couple, so treat yo’ self right with a night of drinks, jokes, Skee-Ball and braggy Instagram posts. You’re worth it.
