AARL celebrates National Loving day with a screening of the Academy Award-winning film Loving. The day recognizes the landmark Supreme Court case that legalized interracial marriage in 1967. The film, starring Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga, is based on the real-life couple, Richard and Mildred Loving.

The organizers of Southern Fried Queer Pride have paired with the Masquerade and the Wrecking Ball ATL to host A Benefit for the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) and Anti-Violence Project (AVP). Proceeds from the event will go to RAINN, AVP and their respective missions to tackle interpersonal violence.

SCHR 2017 Justice Salon Series: 13th

The Southern Center for Human Rights’ (SCHR) 2017 Justice Salon Series will open with a screening of Ava DuVernay’s award-winning documentary, 13th. The Netflix original documentary uses the 13th amendment to explore how racism in the criminal justice system has undergirded the mass incarceration of African-Americans in the United States. The event will include a discussion with Sara Totonchi and Atteeyah Hollie from SCHR and professor Tanya Washington.
