BronzeLens Film Festival

BronzeLens Film Festival is a nonprofit organization dedicated to celebrating Atlanta as a thriving and growing center for film and film production for people of color. Their annual gathering seeks to educate, entertain and empower its attendees through screenings, panels, Master Classes and events. This year’s event lineup will include the eighth annual BronzeLens Awards Show, as well as a music showcase of songs from favorite movies in Sisters in Song, presented in collaboration with SIS, Inc. and the Morehouse College Department of Music. One of the kick-off screenings will include a First Glance screening of Black Love starring Viola Davis and directed by Tommy Oliver on Thurs., Aug. 24 at 8 p.m. BLFF will also host Sunday Brunch with the Brothers, a celebration of men of color in film and television, on Sun., Aug. 27 at 10:30 a.m. during which Keith David (“Greenland”) and E. Roger Mitchell (“The Quad”) will be in conversation with Timon Kyle Durett and Omar Dorsey (“Queen Sugar”), moderated by Lamman Rucker (“Greenleaf”), about their journeys as actors.

 

Ancient Art Objects

Curated by writer, curator and art historian Kate Geha, Ancient Art Objects finds its inspiration in the themes of excavation, time and antiquity. Artists riff on ancient ideas using contemporary objects. The exhibit also includes Kaleena Stasiak’s exhibition, Eternal Return.

Kai Lin Art’s summer exhibition showcases the works and collaborations of artists Jeremy Brown, Blockhead, Tim Kent, Chris Hob̩ and Kevin Palme. The five artists worked together to communicate the ways in which color can evoke meaning and memory through the use of gradients, abstraction and forms beyond the 2D plane.

 

Sex, Drugs & Rock ‘n Roll Trivia

City Winery - 650 North Ave. Atlanta, GA 30308 7 p.m.

Dirty South Trivia takes over City Winery every Wednesday for a trivia night that begs answers to “Which city has the most breweries per capita?” and “Name a member of KISS, who is not Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, or Paul Stanley.” Prizes include gift cards, concert tickets, CDs, tees and more.

 

Star Bar Bike Night w/ Street Stix

The Star Community Bar - 437 Moreland Ave. N.E. Atlanta, GA 30307 7 p.m.

Street Stix dishes out Greek cuisine, including lamb skewers, baklava, meatball gyros and a housemade kimchi, at Star Bar’s night dedicated to motorbike lovers.
