5 things to do: Corey Feldman and the Angels - July 22 2017

What’s happening in Atlanta today

Pop Up Posse pop-up

Holy Taco - 1314 Glenwood Ave. Atlanta, GA 30316 Noon.

Chris Makes Art assembles almost two dozen independent shops and artisans for a pop-up market. Shop for jewelry, illustrations, terrariums, antiques, home goods and more from artisans such as Ashley Adamo, Symphony, Georgia Vintage Goods, Brigid, Southern Oak Trading and many more.

Zine making workshop

Museum of Design Atlanta - 1315 Peachtree St., N.E. Atlanta, GA 30309 $30-$35. 1 p.m.

Zines are self-circulated, self-published booklets that represent subcultures, discuss issues and share experiences not expressed in mainstream media. Participants will learn how to make zines as a unique way to express themselves, their interests and their beliefs. Hosts will also discuss how the zine movement started and what its role is today.

Jesus Christ Superstar

ACT1 Theater - 180 Academy St. Alpharetta, GA $17-$20. 2 and 7 p.m.

What’s the buzz? The first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional stage, Jesus Christ Superstar has wowed audiences for over 40 years. A timeless work, the rock opera is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally-known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Superstar follows the last week of Jesus Christ’s life. The story, told entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, his disciples, his followers, Judas, Mary Magdalene and the Roman Empire.

Corey Feldman and the Angels, DIP, Band of Silver, the Madame Vega Project

The Masquerade - 75 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive S.W. Atlanta, GA 30303 $20. 7 p.m.

Most remember Corey Feldman as the kid star in ’80s favorites Goonies and Stand By Me, but younger readers might recall his “The Today Show” performance of “Go 4 It” that went viral last September. Feldman and the Angels are a full-on production that began when he met women at the Playboy Mansion who wanted to act and play music. Whether or not Feldman’s music adheres to any standards of quality is in the eye of the beholder. In this case, it’s dressed in Michael Jackson fashions, spouting pseudo-raps backed by women adorned with instruments, wings and fluff.

Louie Anderson w/ Jay Mandyam

City Winery - 650 North Ave. Atlanta, GA 30308 $30-$40. 7 p.m.

The actor, standup comic and two-time Emmy winner has been making audiences laugh for 30 years. Anderson currently stars in FX’s “Baskets,” a comedy for where he takes on a role inspired by growing up with his mother and five sisters.
