Atlanta Queer Literary Festival

Auburn Avenue Research Library on African-American Culture and History - 101 Auburn Ave. Atlanta, GA 30303 Free. 5 p.m.

AARL screens the award-winning film Pariah (2011) and Academy Award Best Picture winner Moonlight (2017) in conjunction with the Atlanta Queer Literary Festival and Black Gay Pride. Pariah, winner of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival’s Excellence in Cinematography Award, examines how a young woman navigates family and her emerging sexuality. Moonlight, based on the play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue, is the coming-of-age story of young man growing up in Miami and the community that supports him.

Meet the Fellows: Walthall Artists 2016/17

The current class of Walthall Fellows presents its group exhibition Building a Ship from the Shipwreck, “A matter of finding our way, or rather, the willingness to be lost.” Meet the 2016/17 Walthall Fellows: Addison Adams, Joe Camoosa, Morgan Carlisle, Nicole Johnson, Wihro Kim, Macey Ley, Steve Morrison, Ali O’Leary, Tori Tinsley, Charlie Watts and Cosmo Whyte, with an introduction by the exhibit’s curator, Sarah Higgins.

La Carpe Haute - improv from France!

The Basement Theatre - 175 W. Wieuca Road N.E. Atlanta, GA 30342 $8-$25. 8 p.m.

Dan Seyfried, Cedric Marschal, Pauline Vernier, Gael Perry and Fabien Fuhrmann better known throughout France as La Carpe Haute (the high fish, roughly) take to the Basement Theatre’s stage for an evening of bilingual comedy. The troupe will perform mostly in English, but some French will make its way in. Join La Carpe Haute for improv workshops on Sept. 1-2 before their joint performance with the Basement Players.

Mary’s, WUSSY, Rotten Peaches and Radical Faeries team up to raise funds for local trans advocacy organizations Trans Housing Atlanta Program, the Transgender Health Education Alliance and Transgender Individuals Living Their Truths (TILTT). Brigitte Bidet, D’Knighten Dae, Dotte Comm, Ellisorous Rex and more perform while AASHA and DJ Big Gay James spin on the ones and twos.
