Elizabeth Catlett: Sculpting the Truth

Auburn Avenue Research Library on African-American Culture and History - 101 Auburn Ave. Atlanta, GA 30303 Free. 4 p.m.

The Auburn Avenue Research Library in collaboration with NJoysArt will host a screening of the documentary film Elizabeth Catlett: Sculpting the Truth. Catlett’s seamless wooden sculptures of the body’s form brought her concerns for the African American woman’s struggle with social justice and dignity. The screening will be followed by a discussion with artist Joy Ballard Peters, who knew Catlett personally.

 

CCI Summer Improv Benefit: The City Too Busy to Laugh

We’re only halfway through 2017 and so much has already happened. With a focus on the recent elections, the Center for Civic Innovation’s Summer Benefit Improv Comedy show invites guests to laugh it off and take a break from the seriousness of politics. Doug Hooker and Doug Shipman battle it out for your laughs.
