PODCAST: Welcome to Atlanta Untrapped

Radio Station Carousel Promotion See our new CL radio site for all podcasts

Welcome to the first episode of Creative Loafing's monthly podcast, Atlanta Untrapped. By no means is the title of this new multimedia endeavor meant to be taken as a dis on trap music. Rather, the podcast is an outlet that's designed to orchestrate critical discussions about and deep dives into the many enclaves of Atlanta's hip-hop music scene from platinum-earning mainstream trap artists to the flourishing leftfield beat scene from a ground level perspective.

For this first installment, CL Music Editor Chad Radford is joined by the paper's Editor-In-Chief, Carlton Hargro, One Musicfest founder J Carter, A3C hip-hop festival and conference director Mike Walbert and Speakeasy Promotions mastermind Brannon Boyle to discuss the ever-evolving state of Atlanta music. On the table for this week's discussion: Atlanta as viewed through the skewed lens of outside tastemakers, the role the city plays in fostering an active music festival environment, up-and-coming local acts to check out and the story Atlanta DJs tell.

We also press play on a few fresh tracks including Goldyard's "Down4It" (feat. Grip Plyaz), from the Fuck Culture III mixtape, Stan "Steam" Smith's "Jammin" from his Splash Gordon project, and Count Bass D's "Too Much Pressure" feat. Snoop Dogg and DJ Pocket.

Press play and dig into this first step of an ongoing musical exploration.
