The APX modernizes retro-synth sounds on ‘Electrik Funk’

Thanks to pop superstars like Bruno Mars and underground artists/producers like Zo!, the sounds of 1980s-era synth-funk are very much alive in 2017. The ATL-based duo the APX, however, has gone all in on this style as evidenced on their new album, Electrik Funk, which drops today. The eight-song project written, produced and performed by husband and wife team Dee and Erika Rhodes is saturated in the funk and channels the sonic spirit of legends like Zapp/Roger and Evelyn Champagne King, while still blazing trails of their own design. But to really get a sense for their sound, check out the APX performing live at the release party for Electrik Funk this Wed., July 19.
