L.A. Witch plays the Drunken Unicorn Oct. 28
The garage-psych trio stops by Atlanta supporting its self-titled debut
Out of the sprawling L.A. punk scene come garage-psych trio L.A. Witch. With the group’s self-titled debut out now via Suicide Squeeze, singer-guitarist Sade Sanchez, bass player Irita Pai, and drummer Ellie English blend psychedelic sludge with hauntingly upbeat lyrics such as “I’m gonna kill my baby tonight/If he don’t come home on time” on the single “Kill My Baby Tonight.”
Other songs, such as “Baby In Blue Jeans” and “Get Lost” sound more like narcotic-induced daydreams. Sanchez sings in a daze as she plays illustrious riffs over English Pai’s wistful rhythms. While the album is L.A.Witches proper debut, this isn’t the trio’s first rodeo; the group spent a good three years preparing and playing songs on the road with artists such as the Kills and Atlanta punk label mates the Coathangers.
