The election of Democrat Jen Jordan Tuesday robbed Republicans of a two-thirds supermajority in the Georgia state Senate, according to The Hill.
Jordan was elected to Georgia’s District 6 senate seat, which was vacated by Republican Hunter Hill. Hill resigned to run for governor.
Jordan beat out fellow Democrat Jaha Howard in the runoff election Tuesday, after the two each took more votes than any of the five Republican candidates competing against them in November’s general election.
Georgia’s state Senate is still predominantly Republican, although without a supermajority, they can’t make amendments to the constitution without Democrats’ say-so.
