Sadie Dupuis brings Sad13 to the Drunken Unicorn

The Speedy Ortiz singer strikes out on her own with ‘Slugger’

Sadie Dupuis, lead singer of Speedy Ortiz, takes her Twitter handle and a confidently personal and lo-fi approach to her new project Sad13. The resulting album, Slugger, is a complete reflection of DuPuis over a two week period as she played every instrument, recorded, and produced the album with no outside help. The results mix serious messages from feminism to consent against a backdrop of bedroom pop fun. Lyrics such as “I say yes if I want to / If you want to you’ve gotta get a yes” in “Get A Yes” float over an infectious mix of keyboards and high-energy guitar and beats.
